Winter 2024 Library Service Updates

Accessibility at the OCC Libraries: Assistive Technology and Accessible Content

The OCC Libraries are committed to providing access to collections and services for all students, faculty & staff.

Assistive Technology & Physical Facilities

A designated physically accessible workstation with JAWS screen reading software is available at the Auburn Hills, Highland Lakes, Orchard Ridge and Royal Oak campus libraries

Each campus library lends assistive technology equipment such as headphones, sound amplifiers, reading pens, digital voice recorders, and desktop splash shields. Contact your campus ACCESS office for more information on how to borrow these types of items.

Library service desk staff members are available to assist users needing any help in retrieving library materials from the shelves.

Outdoor book drops are available at each campus to return library materials. Visit the campus library pages for maps to book drop locations, directions to campus, contact information and more:

Web Standards & Online Resources

The OCC Libraries strives to meet WCAG 2.0 level AA standards across our website.

Many of the online resources we provide through third-party vendors include a variety of accessibility features, such as:

  • Providing options for print content. Articles may often be available in text format or accessible PDF. E-books may be available in PDF or EPUB formats.
  • Some vendors include Readspeaker text-to-speech capability.
  • Closed captioning and interactive text scripts are available for most streaming videos.

While we make every effort to ensure all of our online resources are accessible, some resources offered through third-party vendors may not be fully up to standards. Our third-party vendors are reviewed for their level of accessibility before and after purchase. In cases where online resources are not fully accessible we will work with the vendors to make corrections. If you should find any of our resources to not need your accessibility needs, please contact us through our Ask a Librarian service so we can attempt to provide reasonable accommodations.
