Writing and Research Advice from the Competition Winners

Stella Fairless, 1st Place

Writing Advice:

“Before you begin writing, make an outline with as many sections as you see necessary – why it’s interesting, thesis ideas, and paragraph themes. My winning research paper started with a 13-page outline, and it made everything so much easier”

Research Advice: Use the OCC library!

“I found so many academic articles and journals that helped my paper and you can access tons of resources for free. I like that you can add filters to your search, like peer reviewed papers and library availability.”

Jayden Sangma, 2nd Place

Writing Advice:

“To motivate yourself, research something you are passionate about!”

“Be sure to have another person read and review your paper.”

Research Advice:

“The OCC Libraries’ online databases are great – they provide relevant and recent articles from credible sources!”

Noor Abdallah, 3rd Place

“Choose a topic you are interested in researching, otherwise you aren’t going to be giving it your all.”

Research Advice:

“The JSTOR online database, provided for free by the OCC Libraries, holds much valuable, easily accessible information. The in-person campus library can give you access to longer, more thorough information pieces in the form of books.”
