Information Literacy is one of Oakland Community College's general education outcomes.

Students who are information literate are able to use information ethically and legally. They can identify, explore, analyze and apply appropriate information resources to a specific task. This includes:

• Distinguishing between reliable and unreliable information sources
• Locating primary sources
• Appropriately citing their sources
• Using a subject-specific database
• Explaining the benefits and dangers of relying on Wikipedia

Library Success Seminars are available this semester anytime online or on select dates in person at the Orchard Ridge campus library. Learn more about library research topics like searching electronic databases, finding good web sites, and completing research papers.

In-Person Library Success Seminars at the Orchard Ridge Campus Library

Learn to use the Orchard Ridge Campus Library and access our resources! We meet Mondays, 12:00-12:30 in room K 200. If you are unable to attend, check out our online seminar videos below. Ask your instructor if you will be awarded extra credit for attending. Students are emailed proof of attendance or activity completion. Call 248-522-3612 with any questions.

Online Library Success Seminars

Select from the links below to view an online seminar and take a short survey after each to get extra credit if offered by your instructor. Ask your instructor if extra credit is available for your course.

Would you like to you offer your students extra credit for attending an online Library Success Seminar?

You can request a Librarian to send a video of a seminar(s) to your Knowmia Library and include it your D2L course to see who viewed the seminars and how many minutes were watched.  

Contact a Librarian to send you a copy of the Library Success Seminar to your Knowmia Library then follow these steps:

1. Go to the Content link in your D2L course site and add a module.
2. Select the second option in the module called “Existing Activities”.
3. In Existing Activities, click the drop-down menu and scroll down and click Techsmith Knowmia (it's the last option in the dropdown). This will take an instructor into their Add Activity section within TechSmith Knowmia.
4. Scroll down until you see the video you wish to add and select the blue Add Media button for the desired video to add.
5. Repeat steps 2-6 to add each seminar video in to your course site.
