The OCC Libraries are migrating to an upgraded authentication system this fall. This means that off-campus users will see a different login screen when trying to access certain library resources such as databases, full-text articles & e-books. While the transition is taking place over the next few weeks we will have access to both logins until the new version takes effect September 29.
While all of the linking on the Library website and in the Search Everything library catalog will be automatically updated for this transition, some links you have to library resources in D2L may need to be updated manually.
If you are linking to library resources with links that start like these, this upgrade will have no effect on how your students access them off-campus:
If you are linking directly to databases or e-books and articles within databases then your links will likely need to be updated. These can be identified as beginning with the prefix https://login.portal.oaklandcc.edu/login?url=
If you would like to update these yourself you can do so by replacing the old proxy prefix with new one. For example:
Links that do not include a proxy prefix do not need to be updated, but be careful with shortened URLs since you can’t tell by looking at them.
Please feel free to send a list of your links that need to be updated and we can make those changes for you, even if you’re not sure if they need to be updated. If you need assistance, have any questions or run into any problems please contact Library Electronic Resources Coordinator Jeff Zachwieja: jxzachwi@oaklandcc.edu, 248-522-3488.
In order to allow easy access to articles, most library database providers include durable links to each item in a database. Durable links refer specifically to the material you want and can be set up to make sure that authorized users are allowed access to materials from on-campus or off without having to search the database.
Depending on the database you are using, a durable link may be called a:
