About The Library: Internet and Computer Use

OCC Libraries Use & Access Policies

OCC libraries strive to provide comprehensive information services and access to a wide range of resources while adhering to various policies, including copyright laws, licensing agreements, security restrictions, and ethical standards.

Services are primarily provided for currently enrolled OCC students, faculty & staff. Community users (Oakland County residents) and other guest users not currently affiliated with OCC may be restricted from some services.

Physical Collection Access
On-site use of collections and physical services is available to all users. Certain reserve materials can be borrowed for a limited time, typically ranging from 1 to 3 days, to ensure availability for other users when required. The OCC Libraries must adhere to specific licensing terms and conditions for use of curriculum videos. Print materials may be partially photocopied for educational purposes in accordance with United States copyright laws and Fair Use. More on copyright on the Copyright & Fair Use Guide.

Electronic Resources
OCC libraries offer online access to selected electronic services and databases and restricts usage to OCC students, faculty, and staff. Access from off-campus requires a valid MyOCC username and password to verify the user's affiliation with OCC. If you encounter access issues and believe you should be eligible, please contact a campus library for assistance.

Computer Use
Use of computer resources in the OCC libraries is restricted to students, faculty & staff due to network security restrictions. Access to Wi-Fi in the OCC libraries is available to students, staff and guest users who are connecting through their own devices.

The Internet is a dynamic resource and the OCC Libraries cannot control access points that often change rapidly and unpredictably. OCC Libraries make no warranty, expressed or implied, for the timeliness, accuracy, or usefulness of information accessed via the Internet. As with other materials, restriction of a minor's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

All users of OCC computers must adhere to the Technology Appropriate Use Regulations.

Government Documents
The Orchard Ridge Campus King Library is a Depository for U.S. Government Publications. Community users are permitted to access United States government internet resources at the King Library through a dedicated workstation. Please see staff for assistance.

Privacy and Ethics
OCC libraries are committed to supporting and complying with relevant laws and ethical guidelines, including the U.S. Department of Education Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the State of Michigan Library Privacy Act, and the American Library Association Code of Ethics.

These services are available to OCC students, faculty, staff, and on-site community users, with some restrictions in place to ensure equitable access and compliance with regulations.

OCC is committed to empowering our students to succeed and advancing our community.
